The iconic Mr. De la Renta

If there was ever a designer that made women feel beautiful it was Oscar.

I had the privilege of attending many of Mr. De la Renta's collections in the early to mid-nineties, his show was always my favorite of all the New York shows.

His showroom (in those days, that's where you had the shows), was simple and elegant. A neutral canvas that was transformed when his models showed his collections.

There was nothing harsh about Mr. De la Renta's style. He understood women's bodies and made them look stunning. Color was always present. And, his embellishments on fabrics were beautiful beyond belief. His imagination took a two dimensional  fabric and created a three dimensional sculpture.

The many times I visited with Mr. De la Renta, he was always gracious and made you feel like he was genuinely interested in what you had to say. His dapper persona made you want to be your best around him, his impeccable style made you sit-up straight and pay attention to what you looked like. Those were the days.

Unfortunately, like his passing, the values which he personified are also pretty much gone now.

I will miss him.
