People ask me what is my favorite season, and unequivocally I answer: fall. I love everything about fall.
Fall to me represents richness in nature, food, weather, and of course, fashion. And fall fashion begins with sweaters.
Sweaters are the building block for a good fall wardrobe. Not only do they keep us nice and toasty, they also provide us with backdrops for layering and mixing. Sweaters can be used as foundations, becoming the building blocks for your outfit; or they can be used as outerwear, protecting you from the elements.
A good sweater wardrobe must have the following basics; I have added my favorite brands:
Turtlenecks in black, tan, ivory. (Saks Fifth Avenue private label or Ralph Lauren )
Boyfriend cardigan in black, brown or grey. (Neiman Marcus private label or Loro Piana)
Deconstructed lightweight wrap sweater in black (J. Crew or DVF)
Loose tunic, in black tan or seasonal color (Neiman Marcus private label or J. Crew)
Knee-length sweater coat…yes in black or other basic (Anthropologie or Escada)
Evening sweater, possibly with some metallic. (Gucci or Anthropologie)
These pieces when mixed-and matched will give you countless wardrobe options. Investing in building a good sweater wardrobe takes time, don’t rush. Buy quality vs. quantity.
