The nature of Nature in Fall

Amazing golds.

Amazing golds.

Fall is my favorite time of the year and nature is busy, busy, busy in this glorious season.

In the old days, before daylight savings was pushed back, I loved how the light demarcated the beginning and end of the day. How after nature gave us the wild and abundant colors of summer, now turns almost contemplative and decides to color everything gold and red. Then slowly these colors are shed to reveal the true structure of things.

It’s as if nature said: you saw me all dressed-up in spring and summer…I am going out with a bang, and will reveal myself to you before I cover myself again in a mantle of white.

Nature teaches us about cycles. If we only stopped (Pause) and became aware (Be Aware) of what our ancestors knew to be true: we are nature, we are part of it and cannot lead an existence separate or in ignorance of its greatness.

Amazing trees showing their structures.

The enlightened Buddha understood change; understood nature and hence the nature of change.
