Jessica Jesse || A Gift for Yourself

What would you give yourself?

We are very preoccupied during the Holiday season about what to give everybody.

We also have the tendency to buy things for ourselves, either because we want things or we need things. But we buy…we don’t give to ourselves.

What is the difference you ask? Let’s start with the simple definitions:

BUY:  to acquire the possession of, or the right to, by paying or promising to pay an equivalent, especially in money; purchase.

GIVE: to present voluntarily and without expecting compensation; bestow.

Pretty telling.

When was the last time you said to yourself I am going to give myself something…not I want a Latte, or OMG I need those shoes, or I must have that new mascara, or I will feel better if I had X, or I will be thought of highly if I own…PAUSE.

Think of what will make you happy. It doesn’t have to be an object.

Then, think why it will make you happy.

Then, think of what will happen if you don’t get it.

Then, think of are you better or worse off for it?

Then, think of do you have the freedom to make a choice?

Once you answer these questions you realize that you have already given yourself a gift. The gift of presence. You have taken a moment to enjoy a process of determining what is important to you.

Go…Be it.

That is the ultimate gift.
