When you go out into nature, one always hopes to see a serene, impeccable landscape - but this, sadly, is not always what you'll find. As the world faces growing populations and few restrictions on product consumption, it's only a matter of time until our environment ends up trashed; disrespected and overflowing with mindless litter. While the problem is monumental, remember that everyone together can help to make a positive impact. Here are a few ways you can start the process today...
1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: The first step you can take towards cleaning up the environment is to be mindful and recognize your own ecological footprint. The first goal is to use less. The second is to reuse what you do have. The third, if the other two aren't possible, is to recycle. Do your best to cut out plastics (plastic bags, disposable water bottles), as they are a leading source of pollution on land and water.
2. Take action: Litter starts with just one piece of trash ignored by one person, so make sure you aren't passively contributing to the tidal wave. Always pick up after yourself, and if you see someone else's aluminum can or a plastic wrap lying on the ground, go ahead and make a habit of picking it up. You never know who you might unknowingly inspire by your simple, yet helpful actions.
3. Community Involvement: A single, passionate person can make a huge amount of difference, but if you're ready to take your love for the environment to the next level, find out how you can get involved with other likeminded individuals in your community. After all, we only have one planet, it's essential that we respect and care for it together.
