Living an Inspired Life: Candace Evans

Candace Evans is an internationally renowned director and choreographer with a talent for story telling, timing, and the fusion of music, movement and text. One of Dallas' most creative individuals, Candace Evans is a force to be reckoned with. We sat down with this inspiring BuDhaGirl to discover how she maintains a hectic work schedule while prioritizing mindfulness and creativity.

Meet Candace.

How did you discover BuDhaGirl?

I was introduced to BuDhaGirl by a dear friend who invited me to a holiday party at Jessica Jesse's beautiful home. The BuDhaGirl collection was laid out on a table, and I was drawn to the dragonfly pendant. It was then explained to me that dragonflies signify change. It is so interesting how you gravitate towards the things you need.

What are your favorite pieces of BuDhaGirl jewelry?

Because I travel so much, I love the All Weather Bangles. Another favorite is the Temple Chain, which is also easy to travel with. The Temple Chain is very versatile, you can dress it up with a BuDha Pendant, a tassel or even the dragonfly reminder. My newest favorites are the Exuma Bangles in all colors.

When you put on your All Weather Bangles, what intentions do you set?

I set intentions for the health of my mother, my father, my mother-in-law, that my daughter will have a healthy baby, and that my daughter and son-in-law's impending home deal will go through smoothly. I set my intentions for other people, but then leave the last ones for myself and work.

Do you have a poignant BuDhaGirl story to tell?

Yes! We were in rehearsal and one of my performers was having a bad day. As the mother of a two-year-old, she was overwhelmed and feeling ungrounded while trying to rehearse a scene. I gave her one of my All Weather Bangles to lend her strength and focus.

Why is mindfulness important to you?

Mindfulness is important to me because every minute matters. Sometimes it feels like there is an infinite amount of time. The phone is buzzing, people are impatient, and it is easy to lose track of what is important. I always carried a small talisman with me, my children's jewelry when they were young, for instance, to keep me centered and reminded of what I'm here for. When I wear BuDhaGirl, it is a cue to remain mindful throughout my day.

What does "living well" mean to you?

Living well is being present in what you do. Being constantly busy isn't sustainable. To me, to live well is to be thoughtful about everything from jewelry, to nutrition to education.
