Friday the 13th: A Day for Mindfulness

Friday the 13th, friend or foe?

Everyone has a staunch opinion about the fated day, Friday the 13th. Some are on edge when this day rolls around, while others look forward to it. So now that we're experiencing a Friday the 13th in October - are you feeling all the more cursed, or all the more lucky?

Myths and folklore about Friday the 13th go back centuries. The superstition may have come from the Middle Ages and the symbolism of Jesus' Last Supper and the Crucifixion, however there is no record of 13 and Friday being referred to as unlucky in conjunction until the 19th century. Other origin stories include the death of Gioachino Rossini who died on Friday the 13th, or the Friday the 13th when Philip IV of France arrested hundreds of Knights Templar.

Believe it or not, studies actually find that fewer accidents happen on Friday the 13th than they do on any other random day of the year. Is it because people are being more cautious, or is it just luck? If you find that Friday the 13th is a day to fear, approach it differently today. Try to be less fearful and more mindful. Be present and be aware. Your "luck" might change.

Are there certain rituals that you do on Friday the 13th?
