BDG Team on Earth Day

"Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better." - Albert Einstein

This Sunday, April 22 is Earth Day. Today, the BuDhaGirl Team tells us about the importance of mindful living and how they plan to make the planet a better place for all.

Caryn: I choose to buy mostly organic foods and products for my household. I believe that one person can make a difference. When I buy organic, I increase the demand for sustainable farming methods, and over time, the industry will have to change to meet the needs of consumers.

Irma: Earth Day is important because it helps us remember the importance of this planet that we live on. We can’t take the planet for granted, and we must give thanks for this wonderful place we have the privilege to call home. I know I can't make a big difference alone, but all of us doing our small parts can amount to make a difference together. I recycle and don’t litter. I drive a car which does not waste much gas. I do not leave my lights or TV on while I’m out of the house. It’s important to be mindful of your environment because we only have one planet we can live on. We don’t have a second choice, we don’t get a redo. The planet we leave behind will belong to our future family. What will they think of us when they know we did nothing to help them inherit a better world?

Bianca: Earth Day is important because it reminds us how important it is to take care of the environment. A few ways that I take action to make the world a better place is by not littering, turning off the lights when they are not needed and finding ways to save water. Mindfulness is key to taking care of the environment. A few things I do to live green include using canvas bags instead of plastic bags, giving up bottled water and recycling paper, plastic and glass.

Twyla: Earth Day is the perfect time of year to pause and reflect on the ways in which you can minimize your carbon footprint on the planet. This year, I want to make an effort to cut more plastic out of my life and replace it with glass or stainless steel. Aside from eliminating plastic bags and water bottles, I plan on making a conscious effort to not buy plastic products such as plastic tupperware and plastic containers of shampoo, dish soap, etc. Up to 80% of all recycled glass can be reclaimed - while not all plastic can be recycled. In turn, plastics that are either not actively recycled or can't be recycled create huge amounts of trash on land and sea. These days, there are so many sustainable options available to us. While it may be more expensive in the moment, in the long haul, we are benefitting our own health and the health of our planet.

What intentions are you setting this Earth Day?
