Listen Linda...

We’ve all been there. No matter how great everything is going and no matter what stage of life we are in, sometimes, you just need someone to slow down and listen. Listen to me. Listen, Linda! If you don't yet know the YouTube phenomenon we are referring to, you can choose to watch the link now or at the end.

As a toddler, it's hard to make those “overgrown tyrants,” (parents) understand. While they might try, adults simply don't understand the mind of a toddler. It IS fun to play in mud, and it IS fun to paint on walls, it IS fun to eat cupcakes….ugh. If only they would just try it. Linda, listen…

Then the teen years. The awkward times. The intense social pressure. There's a feeling of wanting to belong to something that we might not even particularly like. At this point in our lives, the overgrown tyrants (our parents), become overgrown bores. Honey, Linda, listen….

Early adulthood. Yup, the world might be our oyster, but we need to learn about how we fit in within the world, what we want to do, how we can succeed. Those overgrown tyrants and bores are now pretty good lending institutions. Linda, you are not listening to me.

Commitment. At some point we become committed to something, to LOVE, marriage, baby carriages, real estate… work. We look at ourselves in the mirror and we recognize ourselves but wait… what’s that? Slightly there, when we squint our eyes… a veil… we are looking more and more like our overgrown tyrants. OMG… we have become Linda.

And then we continue the loop: You are not listening to me.
