I have always loved this song. Yes, you may call me schmaltzy…I don’t care. My toes start tapping and I start singing along. I just love the beat, rhythm, and lyrics. Danke Schoen reveals a time long gone when life was simple, of when men and women didn’t have all the hang-ups we have now. A time when being a little naughty was not a capital offense.

When my father-in-law passed away, I made a video to celebrate his life of the incredibly handsome, great husband, great father, naval officer, engineer, future thinker…and I used Danke Schoen as the music. The song made people weep, it made them laugh, it made them sing-a-long in gratitude for having had Hal in their lives.

A few years ago, I was in Las Vegas, and I made a point to go see Mr. Las Vegas…Wayne Newton (that’s a whole other blog). Of course, he sang Danke Schoen, and it made me so incredibly happy…I was so grateful to see the legend perform this song that means so much to me.

Now, more than ever, when I hear Danke Schoen, I make it a ritual to truly be thankful for everything I have.
