I Love October
I love October, it is my favorite month…here’s why:
Fall is my favorite season, and I feel that in the glorious month of October it really kicks in. Sometimes in September it still just feels like Summer (remember, I lived in Dallas).
The world in October’s changes color reminding me of a luxurious sigh, like the world is letting go after the frantic pace of new growth in Spring and ripening in Summer. Then, in all its plentiful bounty nature releases by producing golden hues and early evenings of twilight. I love the smell of October, the crispness of leaves that have fallen, and will once again repeat their cycle of life by nourishing the soil. Loam. I love that word: loam.
Of course, there is my wedding anniversary. Bill and I love October.
I also become very inspired by the food; I begin to use mushrooms in everything. I make cassoulets and earthy, satisfying suppers. I want to smell the aroma of wood-fired anything. My tablescapes take on the colors of the season…amber, fawn, caramel, chestnut maple, and for greens: sage.
Let’s not forget Halloween, or as I prefer to call it: All hallows eve. I am a great believer in the magic of things, things that are only perceptible if we are attuned to our world and very present, using all of our senses. Acutely using our senses. I feel imbued with the energy of the Harvest moon, and every once in a magical while a blue moon. October re-charges all of my crystals and I love to cleanse my spaces with sage.
I hope October is as inspiring and fulfilling to you as it is to me.
