The Importance of Vacation

Taking a break is important.  Did you know that your brain actually knows it is on vacation not by a mere change of location but because you have affirmed that: I am on vacation?

What happens next is that we seem to perceive things differently when we are on vacation. Our brain allows our senses to become sharper because we are no longer performing our daily routine.  Vivid memories of vacations are common because we allow ourselves to become aware of everything around us, therefore creating connections that our brain expertly files and then is able to recall in minute detail. Ever try to tell someone in minute detail your workday?

My favorite aspect of vacationing is discovery. Those "aha" moments that surprise and delight when you least expect it. Sometimes these moments are in grand places like the Vatican but more often than not, and without much effort they are simple treats for the heart which implant fond memories for a lifetime.

I am on Bainbridge Island in the magnificent Pacific Northwest. Here, I discovered my favorite store of all time. Zack and Eli have been in business 15 years...they must be doing something right. Take a look.

I have been in love with Zack and Eli's for years now. I splurge on their divine Dahlias and I believe we all could use some of their good old trust.

Hugs from Bainbridge
