International Women's Day

BuDhaBlog: International Women's Day

Hmmmm…

International Women’s Day was formalized during a wartime strike in 1917 when Russian women demanded “bread and peace.” Four days into the strike the tsar was forced to abdicate and the provisional Government granted women the right to vote. The strike began on March 8th and this became the date that International Women’s day is celebrated.

Wait. How is it possible that 105 years later Russian women are held hostage, their futures hanging from a thread because of a warmongering dictator? This is horrible.

I get that this year’s theme is gender equality and #breakthebias, but we must focus on the injustice that is happening to both Russian and Ukrainian women.

Women have contributed so much, they have given their lives for world-changing causes, for their children, for their own betterment…and for what? So some man in power can destroy everything. UGH. Unfortunately for the men, the record of war is tipped heavily against them.

This year let’s collectively send healing energy to all women. May they be safe, may they be at peace, may they be happy.

PS…I think women can do anything they set their mind to, yet freedom and an atmosphere of peace must exist for them to thrive. That is our right.
