6 Essential Holiday Wellness Tips

The holiday season is a beautiful time, but also a whirlwind of busy schedules, indulgent foods and looming deadlines. Before the craziness of the holidays starts to effect your health, make a personal commitment to invest in your wellness. These are our 6 go-to tips to stay healthy (and sane) during the holidays.

  1. 2019 resolutions start now! Don’t wait for January 1, begin your resolutions today. If you start to put good habits and a positive mindset in place now, you’ll be less likely to overindulge during the holidays. Keep in mind, research suggests that it only takes 21 days to form a good habit.

  2. Be aware of your stress. From end-of-year deadlines at work to complicated family matters, holiday stress can come in all shapes and forms. In order to handle your stress well, the first most important thing is to be aware of it. Ask yourself how you can deal with your stress in a healthy way, so you don’t end up adding fuel to the fire with emotional eating or drinking.

  3. Find ways to physically move. One of the best antidotes to holiday stress is to move. During this time of year, we need to stay active even when our schedules become overrun with holiday parties and travel plans. You don’t need a gym, or even a significant amount of time, just go outside for a quick walk, or choose the stairs over the elevator.

  4. Meditate. Finding just 5 minutes a day to breathe deeply and center yourself can make a world of difference. Carve out these 5 minutes in the morning before work, at your desk, on the plane - wherever you can! If you like to hear a guided meditation, be sure to check out ours here.

  5. Prioritize self-care. Not feeling well? Don’t put off a sick day just because you know you have a holiday break coming up. Exhausted after a long day? Choose a bath over that party - wellness should always come first.

  6. Be present. Last but not least, be present. The holidays come only once a year, so it’s up to us to enjoy the moment. When you’re caught up in the whirlwind, don’t forget to thoughtfully wrap each gift, to pause and appreciate at the lights on the tree, or to put down the phone and catch up with an old friend.
