I Want It Now!

“A man who is a master of patience is a master of everything else.” – George Savila

I believe that patience should be taught before anything else…the 101 of all 101’s. If I could have a dollar for every time I reacted hastily, or wished time would speed up, or thought that if I didn’t get something right when I wanted it the world would end, Jeff Bezos would have nothing on me.

It is not until much later in life that we come to understand just how valuable patience is. Unfortunately, some people don’t ever develop patience for themselves, towards others, or for circumstances that occur not on their required timeline, but the universe’s. Usually those people are pretty miserable and are hurtful to others.

So, if we can fine tune the muscles in our body and learn new things using our brain, can we exercise the patience muscle/neuron to become masters? Of everything else?

As adults (hopefully) we have developed the cognitive ability to ask why? Why can’t I wait? What is the hurry? What if I get run over by a bus (that’s Jessica’s line)? Well, all I can tell you is that timing in life is everything. Understanding that we do not and cannot control events and their timing is mastering the first step in patience. Letting go.

Things will come when they may. You must be ready to receive them when they do.
