Fountains

Since I was a child I have always loved fountains.

After hearing Brother David Steindl-Rast at  the Wisdom 2.0 conference in San Francisco, fountains just got better. And this is why...

Brother David's talk was about gratefulness. He likened feeling grateful to a fountain. He said for us to observe inwardly what happens to us when we feel grateful. As we become aware of feeling and being grateful we experience a feeling of warmth and a feeling of fullness and well being. When we are able to stop and become aware of  these feelings, something else happens: we begin to experience joy. When we embrace joy in this manner it is as if the vessels of  water in a fountain overflow, they overflow with our joy that in turn touches others.

Brother David also mentioned that many of us keep putting stuff into the vessel in our fountain (money, acquiring more stuff, fame, power, etc..)and somehow all these things do not bring us joy, we never overflow with gratefulness.

I am a very visual person, so this metaphor is fabulous for me.

I am very grateful to Brother David. I will begin to finally overflow.

Hugs

Jessica
